La Boeing Company ha raggiunto un significativo traguardo con la consegna del millesimo esemplare del proprio B.757. Il velivolo, un serie -200, è stato preso in carico dalla American Airlines. Nella storia dell'aviazione commerciale, solo sette aerei di linea hanno superato il millesimo esemplare prodotto, e sei sono della famiglia Boeing: B.707, B.727, B.737, B.747, B.757 e McDonnell Douglas MD-80. Il prototipo del B.757 volò per la prima volta il 19 febbraio 1982.
Con la consegna di oggi, Boeing ed American Airlines entrano nella sesta decade di collaborazione, consolidando anche la posizione del vettore USA come maggiore operatore del bireattore a corridoio unico della Boeing. Il 1.000° B.757 è anche il 148° ad entrare in linea con l'American Airlines. L'esemplare è propulso da motori Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4. Con oltre 1.200 esemplari in servizio, quasta famiglia di turbofan ha accumulato più di 28 milioni di ore di volo, il 20% delle quali totalizzate dalla sola American Airlines.
Il traguardo raggiunto dal B.757, disponibile anche nella versione con motori Pratt & Whitney PW2037, avviene in un momento di consolidato successo commerciale del velivolo che, nel 2001 è stato il terzo aereo commerciale più venduto, dopo il B.737 ed il B.767. Lanciato sul mercato europeo dei voli charter, il modello allungato B.757-300 si sta affermando, in configurazione a doppia classe, anche nel comparto dei voli regolari di linea.

The Boeing Company today celebrated a major milestone with the delivery of the 1,000th B.757. The airplane, a -200 series, was adorned in the livery of American Airlines. In the history of commercial aviation, only seven commercial airplane programmes have achieved 1,000 or more airplanes. Boeing can claim six of the seven with the B.707, B.727, B.737, B.747, B.757 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-80. The B.757 prototype made its first flight on 19 February 1982.
With the delivery today, Boeing and American Airlines enter a sixth decade of partnership. Additionally, the delivery further solidifies American as the operator of the largest B.757 fleet in the world. The 1,000th airplane will be the 148th B.757 to join American's fleet. American's new B.757-200 will be powered by the Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engine. With over 1,200 engines in service, the Rolls-Royce RB211-535 family has accumulated more than 28 million flying hours. American Airlines has accrued 20 percent, or 5.7 million of those hours.
The 1,000th delivery of the single-aisle B.757 also symbolizes the continued momentum of the programme following strong market success last year. In 2001, the 757, which also is available with Pratt & Whitney PW2037 engines, was the third best-selling airplane model behind the B.737 and B.767. The stretched B.757-300 model expanded into new markets by premiering in scheduled, dual-class service after years of success in the European inclusive tour operator market.
