Dopo la decisione del Governo spagnolo, nel maggio 2005, di acquisire gli elicotteri NH Industries NH 90, oggi il Consiglio dei Ministri ha approvato la firma del contratto di fornitura alle Forze Armate di un primo lotto di 45 macchine. Le prime consegne, programmate nel 2010, inizieranno con gli esemplari in versione da trasporto tattico.
La decisione segna l’inizio del programma di rinnovo delle flotte di elicotteri da trasporto medio spagnole. Contemporaneamente si accresce il ruolo di Eurocopter España come terzo elemento di Eurocopter, facente parte di EADS, principale azionista di NH Industries con il 61,7%.
L’NH 90 può trasportare fino a venti soldati equipaggiati ed è in grado di svolgere numerosi tipi di missione terrestre e navale, incluse le operazioni anfibie e quelle di ricerca e soccorso. Il moderno bimotore NH 90 integra la tecnologia fly-by-wire con l’impiego di materiali compositi avanziati che riducono i fenomeni corrosivi oltre a migliorare la resistenza strutturale ed i costi di esercizio.
Il nuovo stabilimento della Eurocopter España ad Albacete, che sarà inaugurato nei primi mesi del 2007, si incaricherà dell’assemblaggio degli NH 90 destinati alla Spagna, oltre alla costruzione in esclusiva di tutte le fusoliere anteriori. Ad Albacete saranno anche trasferite le linee di produzione ed assemblaggio delle fusoliere posteriori dell’elicottero d’attacco Tiger e quella degli EC 135 comperati dal Ministero dell’Interno del Paese iberico.
Già scelto da 14 nazioni (Australia, Belgio, Finlandia, Franca, Germania, Grecia, Italia, Nuova Zelanda, Norvegia, Olanda, Portogallo, Spagna, Sultanato di Oman e Svezia), L’NH 90 ha un portafoglio ordini superiore ai 400 esemplari. La NH Industries, formata nel 1992, agisce da capocommessa del programma per l’elicottero militare NH 90, lanciato da Francia (Eurocopter France), Germania (Eurocopter Deutschland), Italia 31,6% (AgustaWestland Finmeccanica) e Paesi Bassi 5,5% (Stork Fokker), al quale nel 2001 si è associato il Portogallo con l’1,2 % (OGMA).

After the decision adopted by the Spanish Government last May 2005 relating to the acquisition of NH Industries NH 90 helicopters, the Council of Ministers has approved today the signature of a contract to supply the Armed Forces with an initial order of 45 helicopters. First deliveries of these NH 90s, in tactical transport version, will take place in 2010.
This approval launches the renovation programme of the Spanish military medium helicopter transport fleets and reinforces the role of Eurocopter España as the third pillar of Eurocopter, the NHI Industries leading company with 61.7% shareholding.
The NH 90 can carry up to 20 equipped troops and is suitable for all types of land and naval missions, such as amphibious operations and search and rescue. The twin-engine NH 90 integrates fly-by-wire technology, along with the latest composite materials to minimize corrosion and maximize survivability and life cycle.
The new plant of Eurocopter España, sited in Albacete which will be officially opened during the first quarter of 2007, will assume the assembly of the NH 90 helicopters as well as the manufacturing of the front fuselage of which Eurocopter España will be the sole supplier. The assembly and manufacturing of the rear fuselage of the combat helicopters Tiger and the manufacturing of the EC 135 purchased by the Spanish Ministry of Interior will be also carried out at the Albacete plant.
Already selected by 14 countries (Australia, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, New Zeland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sultanate of Oman and Sweden), the NH 90 has a backlog of more than 400 items. NH Industries, established in 1992, is the prime contractor for the NH 90 Helicopter programme, launched by France, Germany, Italy and The Netherlands, joined by Portugal in 2001.
