On July 8, 2025, at approximately 10:20 AM, a 35-year-old man, neither a passenger nor an airport employee, was able to enter the airside operations area of Bergamo/Orio al Serio airport. Once on the tarmac he rushed towards the Volotea Airbus A 319 EC-MTF preparing for the departure of flight V7-3511 to Oviedo in Spain with 154 passengers on board. Pursued by airport police officers and other personnel, the intruder jumped into the intake of the left turbofan, which was already running, with fatal results. As a side effect the airport traffic was disrupted and a number of flights were cancelled or delayed.
