Ryanair Espands its Activity in Italy

From July 1st 1999, Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will start new regular flights from its London/Stansted hub to six new destinations in three different European countries. Ryanair will enter the German market with a service to Frankfurt/Hahn and will add Biarritz and Dinard to its destinations in France.
Ryanair's move on the Italian market is particularly aggressive, adding to its network three medium/large size towns like Ancona, Genoa and Turin, which recently suffered some type of cuts in air services, both in frequency and capacity, as a result of the opening of the Alitalia hub at Malpensa 2000. The Italian airports excluded from the Fiumicino/Malpensa system are now representing a significant market for local start-up airlines or foreign low-cost carriers like Ryanair.
Ryanair operates a 21 130-seat Boeing 737-200s strong mono-type fleet. On March 15th, the first Boeing 737-800 will be delivered to the Irish airline: twenty-four aircraft of the same type will follow within 2003.
