New Private Partners Enter Turin Airport Agency

Edizione Holding (Benetton Group), Nuova Holding San Paolo IMI, SAB-Bologna Airport and Aviapartner officially entered the SAGAT-Turin Airport management agency with a combined 41.33% share, on 31st January 2001. The new shareholder group proposed Mr. Franco Battaggia as the new SAGAT Managing Director. Former President Mr. Mario Carrara, and Mr. Claudio Berrino, his Deputy, were confirmed.
During 2000 the Turin/Caselle airport totalled more than 2.8 million passengers (+12.6%), with a 13.9% domestic passenger increase and +16% of international traffic. In the same year, aircraft movements climbed to 61.971, 15.1% more than 1999. SAGAT targets 3 million plus passenger in 2001, a fairly good results for an airport in close vicinity to Malpensa 2000, the new Northern-Italy Alitalia hub.
During the past year, some new international services to Lyon, Marseille and London/Gatwick were opened from Turin/Caselle airport by Air France and Meridiana. A general frequency increase was performed on some important domestic and international connections operated by Iberia, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa, Air France and Meridiana.
