Giancarlo Grinza Wins the 1995 "Sales Trophy" for Gliders

On December 20th 1995, 23 year old glider pilot Giancarlo Grinza received, during a ceremony at the Turin Flying Club, the 10 million lira prize of the "Sales subalpine gliding trophy" for the longest ever flight departing from the Turin-Aeritalia home airfield.
On May 17th 1995, Grinza reached, with his Schleicher ASW 20 I-SCFL, the sky over Bressanone (362 km from Turin); the previous distance record flight was made by Emilio Tessera Chiesa in 1978 flying from Turin to Brez near Bolzano (307 km).
The eastward route followed by Mr.Grinza over the Alps passed lake Maggiore, lake Como, Valtellina, Edolo Valley, Tonale pass, Bolzano finally reaching Bressanone; Grinza landed at Caiolo (Valtellina) on his way back.
The Sales Trophy was established in 1991,with the sponsorship of the Sales company, to encourage long distance flight activity of the Turin Flying Club glider pilots.
