Sino Swearingen Aircraft Corporation (SSAC) ha annunciato che lo scorso 17 ottobre, alle 15,20 locali, un altro prototipo del bireattore SJ30-2 è decollato per la prima volta dall'aeroporto di San Antonio (Texas). Esso si è unito a serial number 0003 nel programma di prove in volo per la certificazione FAA. Questa attività è ora condotta giorno e notte, sette giorni alla settimana, con diversi equipaggi che si alternano nell'attività di volo. I due aerei, caraterizzati da una forma estremamente avviata (conformal), saranno affiancati tra breve da un terzo esemplare, il serial number 0005.
Bob Kromer, capo pilota e responsabile operativo SSAC, sedeva nel seggiolino di sinistra, coadiuvato dal pilota collaudatore Mark Elwess. "Dopo il decollo abbiamo retratto i carrelli e siamo saliti alla quota prevista di 8.500 piedi," ha spiegato Kromer. "Durante il volo, durato circa un'ora, abbiamo provato tutti i sistemi principali ed effettuato alcune procedure come l'accelerazione a 180 nodi, oltre a prove di manovrabilità, stabilità e controllo del velivolo."
Nei prossimi mesi, serial number 0004 sarà utilizzato come banco prova aerodinamico e per l'analisi delle prestazioni, fino all'ottenimento da parte della FAA del TC (Type Certification). S/N 0003 è già impegnato da qualche mese per test ingegneristici e per quelli legati all'impianto propulsivo. Tra non molto un terzo aereo (S/N 0005) si unirà al programma di collaudo per svolgere, tra l'altro, le prove dell'impiando autopilota.
In base ai dati provvisori rilasciati dalla ditta, il nuovo "sette posti" SJ30-2, che sarà certificato per operare con un solo pilota, avrà caratteristiche superiori a tutti gli aerei d'affari della stessa categoria, a prezzo inferiore. Dovrebbe risultare il bireattore leggero più veloce e con maggiore autonomia, operando a più di Mach .80 in crociera, su tratte fino a 2.500 miglia. L'SJ30-2 vola ad una quota massima di 49.000 piedi, mantenendo la cabina "al livello del mare" fino a 41,000 piedi, con il più alto differenziale di pressurizzazione - 12.0 psi - nel settore dei business jet. A 49.000 piedi la cabina ha la stessa pressione che si trova a 1,800 piedi d'altitudine.

Sino Swearingen Aircraft Corporation (SSAC) announced that an other prptotype of the SJ30-2 twinjet lifted off at 3:28 pm Friday, October 17, to join serial number 0003 in the FAA certification flight test program. The program has been stepped up to seven days a week with multiple flight crews conducting extensive testing day and night. The two conformed aircraft will be joined by a third conformed FAA flight test aircraft, S/N 0005, in a few months.
Bob Kromer, manager of flight test and flight operations, piloted the aircraft from the left seat as test pilot Mark Elwess handled engineering test pilot functions from the right seat. "After the lift off with retraction of the landing gear, the aircraft climbed to our planned altitude of 8,500 feet," Kromer explained. "All basic systems were tested and a number of other procedures were conducted during the one hour flight, including reaching a speed of 180 kts in level flight, as well as testing the handling, stability, and control of the aircraft."
Serial number 0004 will be very busy during the next year as the aerodynamics, stability/controls and performance flight test aircraft for the FAA Type Certification (TC). It joins serial number 0003, currently undergoing extensive certification testing on aircraft and power plant systems. In a few months serial number 0005 will join the SJ30-2 flight test program, serving as the autopilot, interior and function/reliability certification test aircraft.
The seven-seat new SJ30-2 is revolutionizing the world's light jet markets with performance that exceeds virtually everything in its class, at an exceptionally affordable price. The aircraft is considered the world's fastest and longest range light jet with high cruise speeds exceeding Mach .80 and a range of 2,500 miles. The SJ30-2, which will be certified for single-pilot operation, cruises at altitudes to 49,000 ft. and maintains a "Sea Level Cabin" to 41,000 ft., with the highest pressurization differential in the business jet world: 12.0 psi. At 49,000 ft. the cabin is at only 1,800 ft., or very close to sea level. These Preliminary Specifications are subject to change.
