Con sede presso la Dornier (EADS), è stata formata oggi la SOSTAR GmbH, una joint venture europea per sviluppare un nuovo sistema avanzato per la ricognizione stand-off. In ambito NATO, negli ultimi anni, è diventata impellente l'esigenza di poter disporre di uno sistema tattico aerotrasportato per il controllo e l'acquisizione di bersagli sul campo di battaglia, in ogni condizione meteorologica.
Al programma SOSTAR (Stand-off Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar) prendono parte cinque partner della NATO, attraverso le proprie industrie specializzate: Thales (Francia) 28%, EADS (Germania) 28%, FIAR (Italia) 28%, Fokker Space (Paesi Bassi) 5%, Indra (Spagna) 11%.
La prima fase (SOSTAR-X) porterà alla realizzazione e sperimentazione di una piattaforma dimostrativa installata su un bireattore Fokker 100 e di una stazione a terra per l'analisi e la distribuzione delle informazioni alle truppe. Sul velivolo sperimentale saranno montati un nuovo radar aerotrasportato con "active-array antenna", un sistema di missione in cabina comprendente tre stazioni di lavoro (acquisizione/processo dati/controllo operativo) ed un sistema di trasmissione "data link" aria-suolo. NATO urgently needs its own advanced all-weather stand-off reconnaisance system for crisis and conflict management. In order to meet this demand, the NATO partner countries France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain requested repective industries to implement the new radar system SOSTAR (Stand-off Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar) in a joint venture.
SOSTAR GmbH has been formed today with headquarters at Dornier GmbH, a corporate unit of EADS. The following companies are involved: Thales (28%), EADS (28%), FIAR (28%), Fokker Space (5%) and Indra (11%).
SOSTAR is an operational and tactical air-borne ground reconnaisance system for battlefield surveillance and target acquisition for NATO. The main activities and technological challenge of the company are the development and the operational demonstration of a multi-functional state-of-the-art reconnaisance radar.
In the first step of the 85 million Euro, five year programme, the SOSTAR-X demonstrator will send precise real-time ground reconnaisance and target data from the aircraft to stationary and mobile groung stations via radio communications (data link).
The main assemblies of the system, on board the Fokker 100 test aircraft, are a the new "active-array antenna" radar, a mission system with three console workstation (acquisition, processing, operation control) and a data link system for trasmission of information from the aircraft to the ground station.
