Stolavio: a new Italian aerospace venture

A new aerospace company has been formed in the Turin area, North-West Italy. The new venture, named Stolavio, has its roots in the automotive Stola Group and was formed with the injection of external expertise with 30 years of experience in national and foreign aeronautical industries.
The main mission of Stolavio is to provide complete solutions to the worldwide aeronautical industry, from basic design, through project engineering and production engineering to final products using "concurrent engineering" methodologies.
Services offered by Stolavio span from project of aerostructures, system installation design, stress analysis, production engineering, design and manufacturing of assembly lines and aeronautical jigs, mould and dies design and manufacturing, aeronautical parts manufacturing, aeronautical subassy assembly, pilot installations for technological development, specification/design/manufacturing of wind tunnel instrumentation and models, research and development participations. Other areas of interest under definition include maintenance and overhaul for general aviation, corporate aircraft and other ground services.
Concurrent engineering techniques are deployed by means of latest CAE-CAD-CAM technologies such as CATIA, CADDS5, NASTRAN, PATRAN, ROBCAD, SURFER, TEBIS supported by very high velocity NC milling machines, advanced carbon fiber and metal manufacturing.
Quality standards are high priority at Stolavio. Five months only after constitution, the company has obtained certification for ISO 9001/VISION 2000 (RINA - 20/12/2002); in the meanwile specific qualifications are in progress at major Italian aerospace manufacturers.
