News from Turin/Caselle Airport

On April 20, 2009, Flyonair of Germany started a new Turin-Pescara domestic service operated with ATR 72-200 turboprop aircraft. Flights are daily except Saturday.
From May 1, 2009, a new domestic flight (on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) has been also opened by Ryanair, connecting Turin and Trapani (Sicily). On July 5, 2009 the Irish low-cost airline will inaugurate a new service from Turin to Dusseldorf (Weeze). Other current Ryanair destinations from Turin include Bruxelles (Charleroi) and London/Stansted.
The Turin/Caselle Airport was awarded the “Lufthansa Station of the Month" for March, 2009, by the German national airline. The award is contested by the approximately 200 airports worldwide where Lufthansa has regular flights. The prize was awarded for the outstanding quality of the services offered to passengers. SAGAT states that the customer satisfaction level has reached 95%, thanks to new facilities and the modern air terminal.

(Editor’s Note: in the early ‘Sixties, Lufthansa was the second foreign airline to set up scheduled services to Turin/Caselle airport, after British Airways - then British European Airways Corporation (BEA) - and before Air France. The initial LH Frankfurt-Turin flights were operated by Convair propliners, and later by Constellations, Boeing B.737-100/200’s, B.727-100/200’s, B.737-300’s and Airbus A 320 family aircraft. Today Lufthansa - with their subsidiary airlines - is the main operator at Turin/Caselle airport. Hovever the German airline plans to cut, in their 2009-2010 winter schedule, one daily frequency of the Turin-Munich and Turin-Frankfurt services.)
