Italian Gliding Championships - Turin 2006

Organized by the local flying club, the Turin/Aeritalia airfield hosted recently the Italian Gliding Championships 2006. The competition, divided in three different sailplane classes (Standard, 15 m and Open), comprised five race sessions (April 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8) set up in the March 31-April 9, 2006, period.
46 pilots took part in the event, coming from all over Italy and abroad, and including the Centro Volo a Vela dell’Aeronautica Militare Italiana (Italian Air Force Gliding Center), based at Guidonia, near Rome. Corrado Costa, of the Varese-based Aero Club Adele Orsi, was the winner in the Standard Class with a Discus 2. Giorgio Galetto, of the Aero Club Bolzano, was the winner in the 15 m Class with a Ventus 2ax. Giorgio Ballarati, another member of Aero Club Adele Orsi (ACAO), headed the final score for the Open Class sailplanes, mounting the outstanding (30.9 m wingspan) Flugtechnik Leichtbau Eta powered sailplane.
During the race days, a Schleicher ASH 25 Mi two-seat powered sailplane was also present at the Aeritalia airfield. With the addition of winglets, the resulting wingspan is 25.6 m.
The fist race was tragically marked by the tragic loss of Enea Bonaretti, a distinguished member of Aero Club Volovelistico Lariano.

Standard Class, 15 m Class and Open Class general results, including pilot name, glider type, registration marks, race number, parent club and total score.
