City of Turin Glider Trophy 2008

Organized by the local flying club, the Turin/Aeritalia airfield hosted recently the 36th City of Turin Trophy. The competition was organized in a Single Class with handicap system, to place all pilots at the same level, despite different types and performance of their sailplanes. The competition comprised five race sessions set up in the March 28 April 6, 2008, period.
A total of 26 pilots applied for the event, coming from all over Italy, but actually only 22 took part in the races. Corrado Costa, of Aero Club Adele Orsi of Varese (Calcinate del Pesce airfield), flying a Discus 2 sailplane, was the final winner, having scored two first places, a second, a fourth and a sixth place positions. The race days were characterized by favourable weather apart from March 30, when the race was cancelled due to low ceiling.
The first and longest race (380.7 km) had a delayed start which forced the competitors to shorten the course or to land away from Aeritalia airport.
Six aircraft were used to tow the sailplanes to the start altitude, including four Robins, a Christen Husky and a venerable Rallye as back-up aircraft.

Single Class (handicap) general results, including pilot name, glider type, registration marks, race number, parent club and total score.
