Emirates Airline Takes Delivery of Airbus’ 6,000th Aircraft

Emirates ha ritirato oggi ad Amburgo il 6.000° aereo prodotto da Airbus nei suoi 40 anni di vita. Si tratta del 25° A 380 costruito e l’ottavo esemplare consegnato al vettore mediorientale.
Emirates è il più importante cliente dell’A 380 con 58 aeromobili ordinati. Il vettore mediorientale opera un flotta che comprende 55 aeromobili Airbus con altri 121 in via di consegna.
Fondata nel 1969, Airbus ha superato nel 2005 il 50% della quota di mercato per gli aerei di linea da più di 100 posti. Airbus ha impiegato circa trent'anni per superare, come volume vendite, il principale concorrente ed aggiudicarsi la metà del mercato, sempre oltre i 100 posti.
Per completezza statistica, Airbus ha consegnato il suo primo aereo, un A 300-B2, nel maggio 1974; il 1.000° (un A 340-300) nel marzo 1993; il 2.000° (un A 340-300) nel maggio 1999; il 3.000° (un A 320) nel luglio 2002; il 4.000° (un A 330-300) nel settembre 2005 ed il 5.000° (un A 330-200) nel dicembre 2007.

(NdR: Nel 1969 la situazione complessiva del mercato dei grandi aerei commerciali era ben diversa. I produttori di aerei di linea a getto, negli Stati Uniti, erano la Boeing, la McDonnell Douglas e la Lockheed; in Europa c'erano l'Aérospatiale, la BAC, l'Hawker Siddeley, la Fokker e la VFW. In Unione Sovietica Ilyushin, Tupolev, Yakovlev ed Antonov si spartivano le enormi forniture per l'Aeroflot ed per le compagnie aeree del "Blocco orientale". A quel tempo, la Bombardier produceva solo motoslitte ed acquascooter mentre l'Embraer si affaciava al mercato degli aerei commerciali con il piccolo bimotore Bandeirante.)

Emirates Airline and Airbus have marked a major achievement, by celebrating the hand-over of the 6,000th aircraft in the airframe manufacturer’s 40 year history. The aircraft, the 25th manufactured A 380, was handed over to Emirates Airline in a ceremony in Hamburg. The aircraft is Emirates’ eighth A380.
With a total order for 58 aircraft, Emirates is the single largest customer for the A380. Established in 1985, Emirates became an Airbus operator from the outset. Today, Emirates’ Airbus fleet has grown to 55 aircraft with a further 121 on order.
Airbus was formed in 1969, and by 2005 had reached more than 50 per cent of worldwide deliveries in a single year, of all aircraft of more than 100 seats. It also took Airbus some 30 years after its initial creation to bypass its main competitor in terms of sales and remain at around half the market share for more than 100 places airliners.
Airbus delivered its first customer aircraft in May 1974 – an A 300B2; the 1,000th aircraft was delivered in March 1993 – an A 340-300; the 2,000th was delivered in May 1999 – an A 340-300; the 3,000th was delivered in July 2002 – an A 320; the 4,000th was delivered in September 2005 – an A 330-300 and the 5,000th was delivered in December 2007 – an A 330-200.

(Editor’s Note: In 1969, the overall big airliner market situation was very different. Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Lockheed were the established US manufacturer of civil jet airliners. The European scene included heritage manufacturers such as Aérospatiale, BAC, Hawker Siddeley, Fokker and VFW. In the former Soviet Union, Ilyushin, Tupolev, Yakovlev and Antonov were sharing the enormous aircraft output for State-owned Aeroflot and the other "Eastern Block" airlines. At that time, Bombardier was producing water-scooters and snowmobiles while Embraer was just probing the commercial market with its little twin-engined Bandeirante.)
